Men’s Style

Sure there's a million black t shirts to choose from. But if you want a buy a nice black t-shirt that's soft, looks nice, and isn't ordinary - here's what's trending.

There are several benefits to having a nice black t-shirt in your wardrobe.

The main reason why black t-shirts for men are popular is because of how versatile they are. You can wear them while running errands during the day. You can wear in with a  pair of jeans while hanging out with some buddies. Or wear in with a suit or under a blazer for a dinner night out. They give you so many options, no matter what you’re dressing for.

Yet some men have yet to add the staple item to their wardrobe. But it’s one of those things where – once you do, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Another benefit of having the right black t-shirt is that they tend to make the body look more slimmer. If you’re one of those guys who have a body fat under 10%, then just wear them for the style (while knowing the rest of us hate you. lol.)

Again, you can buy a black t-shirt almost anywhere. But for those who want something above average – here are the hottest black t-shirts out right now.

Made from 100% organic soft cotton, what we love most about this black t-shirt are the details. Like the notched slit and decorative hems. If you’re looking for something with a little character, this is a good option.

X RAY  Ι  $17

All the guys looking for a slim fit black t-shirt, this is one you have to try. Perfect for wearing under a blazer or with a pair of jeans, is comfortable and stylish. And for only under $20 can you really go wrong??

John Varvatos plain black t shirt for men
Plain black t shirt for men by John Varvatos

Most of the cotton that you buy comes from Upland cotton. Like to the tune of around 90%. The other 10% comes from two luxurious cottons – Pima cotton and Egyptian cotton.

So naturally when a mens luxury brand like John Varvatos decided to make a black t-shirt, they used only the best cotton available.

Extraordinarily smooth, it may become your new favorite t-shirt.

Impeccably detailed, this is Giorgio Armani’s diffusion line of fine-tailored clothing, stylish sportswear, eveningwear, outerwear and accessories for professionals. When Ilan Chetrite, son of the founder of Sandro began to break out of his role of Finance Manager and worked his way into the studio, some may have questioned wheather he had the eye for design that his parents had.

Those doubts disappeared quickly. Ilan’s leaning towards modernized vintages styles has contributed to the already popular boutique Paris brand. And can be seen in this striking mens toiletry bag.

If you’re looking for a designer Dopp Kit without the major top brand price tag, and looks great…. this may be a great option.

 Color: Navy Blue

Time to upgrade your oxfords? Here are our Top 7 men's brown oxfords in every price range that we love right now.

The great thing about brown oxfords, the most formal and elegant of the shoe types, is that they look great with just about anything.

The Oxford distinguishes itself by a closed lace system. The eyelets for the shoe laces are generally located on the quarters — that part of the shoe uppers that wrap around the heel and meet the vamp.

Whether you’re a gentleman on the rise looking for your first pair of oxfords or an established man of stature looking to add to a new pair to your existing dress shoe collection, here are a few dark browns worthy of any man’s consideration.

Founded in 1975, Santoni doesn’t have the steep history than many of its counterparts has.  But that’s not always a bad thing. Santoni has become highly regarded in the luxury shoe fashion world by designing beautiful mens oxfords that draw attention without being too flashy or giving the impression that the person wearing the accessories is trying too hard. Instead, when wearing Santoni shoes, self-assurance comes naturally as the brand’s high quality offerings speak for themselves.

For the sartorial gentleman, they pair well with a navy suit – on occasions that demand a dash of flair. Cap the look off with a silk pocket square.

Salvatore Ferragamo

A native of Naples, Italy, Salvatore Ferragamo was a teenaged shoe apprentice before moving to California and becoming known as the shoemaker to the stars. Ferragamo returned to Italy in 1927, where he officially launched his own collection. Today the Ferragamo line encompasses not only exquisitely made shoes for men and women, but also infinitely stylish handbags and fragrances. Furthermore, the company is still family owned and operated in Florence, where you’ll also find the Ferragamo Museum. Home to thousands of shoes (including the famous invisible sandal, cage shoe, and wedge heel)- it’s a must see when visiting Florence.

These Tristano leather brown oxford shoes feature soft leather lining on the inside and burnished leather detailing on the outside. Topped off with a beautiful Salvatore Ferragamo logo on the vamp.

A standard-bearer of their kind during the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1950’s, Salvatore Ferragamo’s still remain an icon of style today.

It doesn’t get much finer than this.

Since we already covered a little about Magnanni’s history, let’s talk about their process.

From the outset, each Magnanni shoe is a work of art that perfectly combines comfort and style. The leathers used are carefully inspected and chosen for their quality and beauty (most are from tanneries in France, Italy, and Spain). They are then finished and colored by hand to create a unique, rich color. Once the leather is ready, each shoe is last by hand. This labor-intensive procedure of fitting the leather over a form ensures superior comfort and flexibility. Also the lasts themselves (the forms on which the shoes are shaped) are all made by Magnanni to ensure that the finished shoe fits well and offers the design, comfort, and support for which Magnanni is renowned.

These Maganni dress oxfords with custom sole stitch detail only look better when seeing them on your own feet.

Allen Edmonds

Founded in Belgium, Wisconsin, Allen Edmonds employs a 212-step manufacturing process that is the basis for handcrafting Allen Edmonds Goodyear welted shoes since 1922.

This shoe’s style dates back hundreds of years, yet still looks as timeless and stylish as ever. Allen Edmonds shoes are made with real leather and lined with premium calfskin. The attention to detail and classic craftsmanship are perfect for business meetings, dinner with family, or a day out.

George Cleverley

Founded in 1958, George Cleverley quickly became known as the go-to shoemaker to some of the most illustrious names in high society, a tradition that continues to this day.

Now, when it’s time to put your best foot forward, it can be in an unmistakable George Clevereley dark brown oxford.

We found this elegant pair of five hole brown oxfords exclusively thru TheRake.

Magnanni was one of the very first shoemakers to take natural leather shoes and dye them by hand to achieve what is now known as patina.

Handmade in La Mancha, Spain, which remains mostly untouched by the modern world, Magnanni shoes only sources the highest grade leather and does a remarkable job at meticulously refining every detail.

Such as this richly colored leather Spanish oxford built with Bologna construction for a fully flexible, glove-like fit. Visit Nordstrom, and zoom in to truly appreciate the artisanship of these handsome brown oxfords.

Stacy Adams

Founded in 1875 in Brockton, Massachusetts by William H. Stacy and Henry L. Adams, the Stacy Adams Shoe Company has been through the test of time.  As a result of combining comfort and style thru the roaring 20’s, post-war boom, prohibition, jazz era, and decades thereafter, they have earned a reputation as a popular menswear brand.

Stacy Adams builds a collection of time-honored oxfords that are fine looking shoes and ideal for those who are budget conscious.

If you're looking for the best pocket squares out right now, look no further.

It’s no secret within the fashion industry that pocket squares (or handkerchiefs as they were previously know as) have made a comeback! Not only do they create an avenue for men to express their creativity but they also add so much elegance and style to a gentleman’s look. Take any sportscoat or blazer, add the right designer pocket square, use the right fold, and “voila!” You have transformed what otherwise might have been a good looking outfit, into an exquisite masterpiece. Why any man would spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on suits and shoes and not have a respectable treasure trove of men’s pocket squares which cost roughly $100 – I may never understand.

For those looking to enhance a look – there has never been a better time to buy pocket squares – ever! Although relatively new companies like Rampley & Co and Eleventy have become standouts in the crowded pocket square arena,  storied powerhouses like Turnbull & Asser, Canali, and Eton continue to prove why they are pinnacle’s of men’s luxury clothing. But these modern pocket squares’ fascinatating complexity is simply eye catching.

But before we dive into the these works of art, if you’re looking for:

RAMPLEY & CO  Ι  $90

This beautiful repeat pattern has been inspired by the stunning Palazzo Colonna in Rome, one of the oldest and largest private palaces in the city and one consistently compared in style and artistic brilliance to that of Versailles. This particular pattern takes inspiration from the Hall of the Fountain and the designs and frescoes that adorn the wall and ceilings and we think it works exceptionally well when printed onto our high-quality silk pocket squares.

Works equally well as a subtle addition to a darker suit or worn more flamboyantly.

This bold pocket square displays the famous story of Achilles defeating Hector. Achilles, desperate to revenge his best friend Patrocles, receives weapons from the fire god Vulcan, and subsequently throws himself into battle with Hector.

With the help of the goddess Minerva, he manages to beat him, as can be seen in this beautiful painting by Rubens, the sixth in a series of eight, in which he illustrated the life of Achilles. On the left and right are statues of Hercules and Mars. Hercules was the first to plunder Troy and Mars was the protector of Troy, but is seen here to turn his face from it.

We all love Fridays. After plowing through another week of making things happen, Fridays are the passageway to a couple days of a little rest and relaxation. Just as there are many ways to do one’s weekend, there are many ways to do Fridays. And in particular there many ways one could dress on casual Fridays.

In this modern era, it’s acceptable, even sometimes “cool” to dress down. Many are given a free pass to wear as far as jeans and t-shirt on this last work day of the week. But just because something is acceptable doesn’t mean that’s it’s proper.

I would submit to you that as a gentlemen, one must not miss opportunities to set themselves apart from the ordinary. I would submit to you that Fridays are a deciphering mechanism separating ordinary men from gentleman.

Remember, you are a gentleman who never compromises style. You are on point in every way, all five days of the work week! Four out of five days – unacceptable. Matter of fact – day FIVE, Friday- is your time to shine!

Here are 4 Key Components to wearing a casual, comfortable style on Friday’s while still leaving a good impression.

1. Blazer or Sports Coat

Having a strong blazer/sport coat wardrobe is essential. But that doesn’t mean you have to own a large one.  With a blue blazer alone, you can create a huge variety of outfits for all manner of occasions, which is why they have been hugging the shoulders of dapper men for centuries. Add one or two tweed or herringbone jackets, and you could be ready for just about anything, including casual Fridays. Check out the7Gents Top 49 Sportcoats & Blazers for a quick source to our favorite picks.

Tip: Avoid putting anything in your jacket’s outside pockets as it tends to throw its drape askew.

2. Pocket Squares

Details matter. It’s what makes understated elegance, understated elegance. Take a moment and really think about that. And pocket squares are a perfect testament to a gentleman’s attention to detail.

The evolution of the pocket squares has unfolded in use since its original purpose as a means to wipe dust and sweat from the faces of Ancient Egyptians. Immensely popular throughout most the 20th century, towards the end they became all but obsolete. That is, gratefully, until its latest resurgence.

Tips: Avoid matching. Complimenting your other accessories is key. Secondly, ensure it’s not bulging. Your jacket pocket should remain relatively flat.

3. Dress Shirts

Here is where you can have some fun with your Friday attire. And unlike the blazer, your dress shirt stays on all day, so make sure it’s comfortable as well.

When it comes to looking your best, a standard dress shirt simply isn’t going to cut it. When it comes to luxury shirts, the selection of exquisite textiles and fabrics and the craftsmanship and methods used to construct them, results in a dress shirt that when used as a foundation to your attire properly, reeks perfection.

Since there are so many variables that go into picking the right shirt (like seasons, work place environment, position, which blazer/sports coat you plan on wearing, and even your mood), it’s wise to keep a generous variety on hangers.

Looking to break out of your go-to’s, try:

Tip: Always keep in mind that you should be more business than casual, so only wear a shirt if the collar can stand up without a tie.

4. Trousers

A pair of solid navy, grey or even charcoal dress pants pleated or flat front are the perfect choice for business casual wear.

When we talk about the pants, chinos fit the bill, especially for casual Fridays. Named after the country they were made in, China, this is a version for casual and classy variants. Chinos have a narrow cut and are straight with the leg. Made of cotton, and therefore very pleasant to wear they are more likely to be worn in the summer and autumn. Although, in the right climate and the right color, can be worn any time of the year.

Three brands to consider for pants are:

Isaia- For the ultimate pair of chinos, go for an ultra-luxurious pair from Isaia. The impeccable tailoring that the brand is known for is still present in the more casual pant. Perfect for a casual day at the office.

Ralph Lauren-  The brand’s take on the staple is a fail safe for sure, ensuring that whatever pair you pick up will have a place in your wardrobe for years to come.

Tip: There’s a fine line between skinny and slim, don’t cross it.
