7 Best Chocolate Cigars (All Tastes and Budgets)

The best chocolate cigars are evidence that you don’t always have to overthink things.

If you just combine two of life’s simple pleasures, beautiful things can happen.

These smokes are perfect as a sweet treat after dinner that won’t make you feel like you’re cheating on your diet. They also go great with black coffee in the morning, giving a beautiful mocha sensation that will set you up for your day.

My favorite chocolate cigar is the Tatiana Classic Chocolate. It’s a beautifully constructed, luxury-tasting smoke that punches well above its price point – and definitely a great jumping-off point if you’ve never tried a chocolate cigar before.

Similarly, other popular options from Principes and Phillies will give you a cocoa-centric smoke that doesn’t compromise on tobacco quality

If you want a more complex smoke that includes cocoa rather than being led by it, check out Macanudo Maduro Hyde Park. They’re a little more expensive than the other picks on this list, but will suit aficionados who like to really appreciate the nuances of a more complex palate.

I’ve tried to include something for all tastes and budgets here – so read on to find the best chocolate cigar for you.

The Best Tasting Chocolate Flavored Cigars

Tatiana Classic Chocolate

Tatiana Classics are my favorite chocolate cigar out there –  there’s rich and luxury-tasting cocoa in every toke of this smoke.

Tatiana Classic Chocolate

It’s a mild-bodied blend made with smooth Dominican tobacco that really allows the deeper notes of chocolate to shine.

The flavor is well balanced, with just enough sweetness to feel gourmand and dessert-like without becoming sickly sweet at all. It’s consistent throughout the smoke, with zero harshness even right down near the nub.

And even though these smokes look a little rough on sight, they’re actually very well constructed. The burn is nice and even and maintains about an inch of firm ash.

I find Tatiana Classics pairs really nicely with a glass of brandy in the evening. Perfect for winding down – even my wife enjoys the aroma as we share a nightcap together.

They’re also about half the price of some options on this list like the Drew Estate Java, which is worth keeping in mind if you like to keep a well-stocked humidor.

If you buy a box of 25 they work out at $3 a stick, which is great value for a smoke I’d want to pass out to my buddies on the weekend.

Principes Masters Corona Chocolate

Just like Tatianas, Principes are made with Dominican tobacco for a mild and aromatic flavor that leaves space for chocolate notes to be the star of the show.

Principes Masters Corona Chocolate

These smokes use a smooth Cameroonian wrapper that burns down really nicely over about 15 minutes.

Overall, it’s a beautifully smooth smoke with a creamy, mild-medium body that will appeal to beginners and aficionados alike.

The cocoa flavor is delicious and tastes just like a square of chocolate melting in your mouth. It’s a very enjoyable experience that feels far more expensive than it is.

If I had to be super critical, I’d say that the pre-cut ends are a bit of a downside. I occasionally get a bit of loose tobacco stuck in my mouth, but not often enough to stop smoking these delicious stogies. A solid 8/10 from me.

Phillies Blunt Chocolate

I normally avoid machine-made cigars, but Phillies Blunt Chocolates are an exception I’m more than happy to make. These classic Coronas have construction and draw on par with hand-rolled stogies, so give them a chance!

Phillies Blunt Chocolate

The chocolate flavor is rich and dark, balanced out by a lightly sweetened cap that doesn’t stray too candy-like or sickly. Blunt Chocolates taste just like cocoa-puffs cereal and don’t seem to pose any difficulties to the beginners I’ve passed shared these smokes with.

These stogies last for a satisfying 30 minutes, which is just right for an after-dinner smoke that will give you a dessert-like sense without cheating on your diet.

I’ve been smoking Phillies for about 5 years now, and they’ve become increasingly hard to find in stores. Even when my local store restocks, they’re normally all out within a week – so I recommend ordering these cigars online.

Macanudo Maduro Hyde Park – Best Maduro Cigar Overall

This award-winning smoke brings mellow notes of cocoa, leather, and dark roasted coffee to the fore for an accessible and well-balanced introduction to Maduros.

Macanudo Maduro Hyde Park

I wouldn’t say this is a “chocolate-flavored cigar” in the same way as some of the sweeter options above, but there’s definitely enough cocoa in the body for me to recommend it as an option for someone looking for something chocolate-influenced with a little more nuance on the palate.

Just enough cocoa, just enough spice – everything is on point.

The construction here is excellent, with a perfectly even burn that didn’t require any touch-ups and an effortless draw. Copious, thick, and velvety smoke billows out of this beautiful-looking stick from start to finish.

I smoked this one right down to the finger-burning nub, which should tell you everything you need to know.

Java

This collaboration between Acid Cigars and Rocky Patel delivers delicious mocha flavor in a shimmering Maduro wrapper. It’s the perfect smoke for Gents who are looking for a natural-tasting Mocha cigar rather than just straight chocolate.

Java Corona by Drew Estate

It doesn’t taste artificial at all – this stick smokes like a premium mild-bodied cigar.

The coffee and cocoa notes aren’t overpowering or in your face like some other flavored cigars can be, and they linger in the aftertaste very pleasantly.

Javas pairs very nicely with a neat bourbon, too. The light sweetness in the Maduro wrapper balances out the stiffness of the whiskey perfectly. You’ll struggle to spend an hour more pleasantly than you would with this pairing.

This isn’t the sort of cigar that’s going to blow anyone’s head off, and it’s a permanent fixture in my humidor for moments I want to share a mild smoke with a rookie. Even my wife, who doesn’t smoke, enjoys a Java with me on an evening with a nightcap.

Cigarillos

Dutch Master Cigarillos Chocolate

Dutch Masters are a go-to everyday smoke of mine.

Dutch Master Cigarillos Chocolate

They’re great for when I’m working on a project in the garage or doing some yard work, and looking for something satisfying that is cheap and quick enough to enjoy casually.

These mild little cigarillos have a creamy, sweet cocoa flavor that reminds me of hot chocolate. As affordable cigarillos go, the tobacco is really pleasant with no bite and an easy draw.

They are also particularly good for traveling because they come in sealed, foil-fresh sleeves. Plus, because there are only three in a pouch, you’ll almost definitely have smoked them before they start to dry out at all.

Dutch Masters are normally available in most gas stations for a few bucks, so keep your eyes peeled next time you’re fuelling up.

Ugly Coyote Chocolate

Ugly Coyotes are pretty similar to Dutch Masters –  a dependable sweet and mild cigarillo with rich cocoa flavor that punches way above its price point.

Ugly Coyote Chocolate

These smokes are handmade with all-natural fillers resulting in a cigar that tastes and burns like a quality full-size cigar.

Occasionally one will have a crack or a tight spot, but that’s very rare – I’m talking about one in every handful of packs.

Ugly Coyotes come in packs of 8 and work out to about a buck per stick. So if you’re looking for a quality, everyday smoke that won’t break the bank, check them out.
