When you think of Louis Vuitton, the first thing that comes to mind is probably designer fashion.
I thought their cologne range would be a bit of an afterthought, but they’re good enough to stand on their own two feet. They’re high-quality, minimalist representations that smell irrefutably classy.
They do a great job of covering all the bases, from deep and brooding ouds like Ombre Nomade and Nouveau Monde, to the fresh and zesty L’immensité and party bangers like Météore.
Nuit de Feu
These fragrances are worth every cent, but they don’t come cheap. This isn’t the kind of cologne most people can buy regularly – so it’s important to make sure you’re choosing the right one for you.
Plus, keep in mind that Louis Vuitton offers a refill service that lets you save up to 40%. You can read about that here.
Let’s get into it.

The Best Louis Vuitton Colognes for Men in 2022
Ombre Nomade Eau de Parfum – Best Louis Vuitton Cologne Overall
Ombre Nomade is one of those fragrances that will make those around you sit up and say “wow, something smells really good”. People are genuinely shocked and almost can’t resist sending compliments your way.
It’s an impeccably balanced rose and oud double act, where flickers of smoky incense and leather combine in a dark and brooding scent.
For the right guy, this cologne is going to absolutely crush – but you need the personality to match. This is not something bright and breezy for a clean-cut gym bro.
Put it this way – if Darth Vader wore cologne, he might be partial to Ombre Nomade. It’s a bold scent, that’s for sure.
This is smokey oud and rose, regal and expensive smelling, never veering into animalic or barnyard territory like some traditional ouds might. This is far closer to the sorts of cleaned-up, western interpretations you find from designer houses like Tom Ford and Creed.
After 3 – 4 hours, the oud clouds start to part to make space for a drier, woodier base of birch and amber, with a little gourmand sweetness offered by the arrival of vanilla.
The notes are all so beautifully balanced that it’s difficult to push myself to suggest any alterations. They truly cracked it this time.
Plus, it is ridiculously strong. A little goes a long, long way, to the point that my shirts will still carry traces even after a wash. It’s one of the only colognes I own that lasts literally for days.
|Top Notes:||Rose, Raspberry and Saffron|
|Middle Notes:||Birch, Incense, Saffron and Geranium|
|Base Notes:||Amberwood, Benzoin and Oud|
Nuit de Feu Eau de Parfum – Best Louis Vuitton Fragrance for Winter
Nuit de Feu is a little challenging for the first 10 minutes, but trust me – if you can stick with it you get rewarded with the perfect fall and winter signature for a stylish Gent in his mid-twenties.
Nuit de Feu
The opening notes are oud in the traditional sense. Barnyard, brash and abrasive. To be honest, it’s pretty actively unpleasant.
But after that everything shifts, and you’re left with a sweeter oud undercurrent classily woven through beautiful incense and leather.
It’s smooth, subtle, and sophisticated – particularly by the time the floral heart notes make an appearance. Everything just gets that bit sweeter and creamier.
It lives up to the name Nuit De Feu (Night of Fire) perfectly, conjuring scenes of sunset walks where incense flutters softly in the breeze.
Performance is very good. With a scent like this, you aren’t looking for dramatic, overpowering projection, so I like the fact that Nuit De Feu lingers relatively close to the skin. You’ll get a solid 6 – 8 hours of smelling like a man who enjoys the finer things in life.
|Middle Notes:||Agarwood, Incense and Olibanum|
|Base Notes:||Leather and Musk|
Météore Eau de Parfum – Best Louis Vuitton Cologne for Partying
This pick is best for young Gents in their early to mid-twenties who want something that will draw attention on a night out. Météore fits the Dior Sauvage, suave womanizer aesthetic down to a tee.
Starting out with a bright prelude of citrus notes, this seductive scent soon turns more creamy, floral, and sensual.
Within a few hours, there are glimpses of a more explicitly masculine base packed with musky, woody fragrance. The vetiver aspect here is particularly well done; it’s a fresh, gripping and revivifying representation.
The longevity and projection are loud enough to make an impact. Even in bustling situations like a bar or club smoking area, Meteore is a long lasting fragrance with enough punch for a full night of revelry.
The sharper citrus inflections in the opening notes would make me lean towards recommending it for spring or summer, but I think you could get away with it on a bright day year-round.
|Top Notes:||Calabrian bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Sicilian Orange|
|Middle Notes:||Pink Pepper, Tunisian Neroli, Sichuan Pepper, Indonesian Nutmeg and Guatemalan Cardamom|
|Base Notes:||Java Vetiver Oil|
L’immensité Eau de Parfum – Most Refreshing Louis Vuitton Scent
L’immensite is a great example of a blue fragrance done properly. It’s an easy-going and versatile light scent perfect as a dumb-reach, everyday wear.
While there are no particularly avant-garde notes to speak of here, the quality still shines through from the impeccable balance at play.
It opens up with a grapefruit sense that is sharp enough to remind me of the rind rather than the juicy flesh, swirling in salty, amber woody fragrance. It feels like sipping a cocktail on a lilo in the Mediterranean.
Shortly after, there’s a little bit of zip from a twist of ginger, adding a spiced sweetness to balance out that grapefruit bitterness. There’s also a musky quality in the dry down, similar to Bleu de Chanel, that gives it a slightly more masculine quality that other chypres like Aventus by Creed.
And by the way – women seem to really love it. I’ve noticed girls just want to be around me when I wear L’immensite, and I’m not complaining about it.
While I do find L’immensite to last long enough from just a morning application, I prefer to give myself a mid-afternoon top-up to make sure I’m still projecting well enough. This is a fragrance that demands to be experienced by others, after all.
|Top Notes:||Grapefruit, Ginger and Bergamot|
|Middle Notes:||Water Notes, Sage, Rosemary and Geranium|
|Base Notes:||Ambroxan, Amber and Labdanum|
Nouveau Monde Eau de Parfum – Best Oud Louis Vuitton Fragrance
This is a true oud scent, in the traditional sense. Nouveau Monde is all about depth, and when you think you can’t get any deeper, it does.
The opening is a bold, animalic smack to the face, avoiding any unseemly barnyard notes but certainly emphasizing a primal quality. It’s dirty and provocative, at least right off the bat.
As the initial blast finds its feet, dark cacao slides in to balance out the oud. This trend continues through the dry down with the emergence of sweet patchouli, a touch of light rose, and smokey incense.
The overall sense is one of maturity, confidence, and generally having your business on point. Perfect for a slightly older Gent who is confident wearing more traditional masculine accords.
It’s pretty similar to Ombre Nomade if you dialed back the rose sweetness and replaced it with another dollop of bold oud sensuality.
If you’re confident with oud fragrances, you’ll struggle to find a representation that says “luxury” in quite the same way.
|Top Notes:||Saffron, Rose, Caramel and Vanilla|
|Middle Notes:||Olibanum, Cacao and Amberwood|
|Base Notes:||Oud and Leather|
Sun Song Eau de Parfum – Best Summer Louis Vuitton Cologne
This is a bright, fresh, and clean fragrance perfect for summer days. Above all the other picks on this list, Sun Song is the cologne I’d throw in my suitcase before I go on holiday.
It opens up with a tart top note that reminds me of freshly squeezed grapefruit. Zippy, juicy, and bright.
This sense quietens down but lingers on in the heart notes, complemented by orange blossom and musk. It’s got a softly sour quality that piques interest while calming the senses.
It’s beautifully balanced, and you can smell the quality from a mile off. Flickers of neroli support this high-end sense and elevate Sun Song from your generic sharp citrons.
Plus, even though the Louis Vuitton bottles are pretty universally aesthetic, I’d wager this is the coolest one.
|Middle Notes:||Orange Blossom|
Au Hasard Eau de Parfum – Most Unique Louis Vuitton Cologne
“Au Hasard” can loosely be translated as “at random”, which is a pretty good way of summing up what’s going on with this scent. It’s a bunch of uncommonly paired accords that feel like they probably shouldn’t work well together, but they totally do.
Despite a bright and citrusy opening, Au Hasard is a dry and musky scent at its core, packed full of leather and woody scent. It’s sort of like a cleaned-up version of the muskiness you can find in Le Labo fragrances.
Flickers of neroli and cardamom spice add a little warmth in the dry down, which sounds a little incongruous for a citrus-led cologne, but nevertheless, it all works.
Just a quick note before you go spending hundreds of dollars. I’d recommend you spray a spritz of Aqua Di Gio on one wrist and Au Hasard on the other before purchasing – just saying.
Sure, Au Hasard is the superior scent, you might not find it superior enough to justify the price.
|Top Notes:||Bergamot, Lemon and Aldehydes|
|Middle Notes:||Cardamom, Pear Liqueur, Green Notes, Neroli and Freesia|
|Base Notes:||Leather, Musk, Sandalwood, Cashmeran and Ambrette|
Les Sables Roses Eau de Parfum – Best Unisex Louis Vuitton Fragrance
This is an extremely wearable rose fragrance. Deep and sexy, Les Sables Roses is the real deal.
Les Sables Roses
The high-quality ingredients lend such a realistic sense, like you’re sitting with a bouquet of roses right in front of you.
It just smells really expensive, to be honest.
While Ombre Nomad is a much more rugged rose expression, roughed up by the stiff oud accord, Les Sables Roses delivers a crisper and more unisex feel.
The longevity of this fragrance borders on eternal, too. You’ll be projecting romance for 10 – 12 hours depending on the weather, with a scent bubble that will project up to 6 feet.
|Top Notes:||Rose and Black Pepper|
|Middle Notes:||Saffron and Oud|
|Base Notes:||Ambergris and Agarwood|
Cactus Garden Eau de Parfum – Best Green Louis Vuitton Cologne
The idea behind Cactus Garden is the convey the contrast between the succulent interior of the plan and the arid landscape it calls home.
And it’s a juxtaposition Louis Vuitton pulls off with aplomb, evoking heat and hydration through this lemongrass, incense, and matte tea blend.
This is a green fragrance for sure, but it isn’t overly citric or tangy in the way plenty of budget efforts are. This is a pleasantly balanced blend that reminds me of restorative herbal teas spruced up by a touch of ginger and lemon. If I was to sum it up in a phrase: refreshing scent.
Considering this a lighter fragrance that could be considered a citrus scent, longevity is actually pretty good. It lasts 6 hours on me, with a pretty serious projection for the first 1 – 2.
|Middle Notes:||Ginger and Matte Tea|
|Base Notes:||Bergamot and White Musk|
Imagination Eau de Parfum – Best Louis Vuitton Fragrance for Attracting Women
Imagination is like catnip to women. My girlfriend can’t get enough of it, and I have to say I’ve received some compliments at the bar too.
This is a nuanced and sweet fragrance showcasing neroli and citrus with a warming cinnamon twist.
Imagine sitting in the garden on a summer morning, enjoying a fresh danish pastry drizzled in a citrus glaze. That’s the sort of gourmand temptation Imagination delivers on.
This citrus scent is most noticeable for the first 3 or 4 hours before the resounding sense is more about feeling fresh and clean than edible. The ambroxon base provides a soapy landing for this young and invigorating scent.
And when I say that Imagination is a performance beast, I mean it. It lasts for 12+ hours, which is pretty insane for a relatively light fragrance suited to spring and summer.
It’s a little like a powered-up version of Mont Blanc legend, a little more modern with a touch more mystique. It smells more expensive if you know what I mean.
Imagination’s seductive qualities make it a no-brainer for men, but I can also imagine my girlfriend stealing it from me on a scorching hot day. This isn’t a brute force alpha scent, but completely irresistible nevertheless.
|Top Notes:||Citron, Calabrian Bergamot and Sicilian Orange|
|Middle Notes:||Nigerian Ginger, Tunisian Neroli and Ceylon Cinnamon|
|Base Notes:||Chinese Black Tea, Ambroxan, Olibanum and Guaiac Wood|
Afternoon Swim Eau de Parfum – Most Energizing Louis Vuitton Fragrance
Afternoon Swim is a joyous and captivating Orange fragrance that masterfully melds citrus and aquatics. It’s like you’re enjoying a glass of freshly squeezed OJ with your feet in the ocean.
The nose behind Afternoon Swim, Cavallier Belletrud, said that his intention was to create a cologne “full of energy” that felt like “a shot of vitamin C” in a spray.
Well, mission accomplished, as far as I’m concerned.
The orange burst is flanked by a fresh ginger spice and powdery bergamot, and they bring just enough to the party to keep things interesting while uncluttered. By the time you’ve made it down to the salty, ambergris base, you feel like you’re wading through refreshing ocean water.
Just be aware that Afternoon Swim is notoriously difficult to get hold of, so don’t just wander into a store expecting it to be in stock. Make sure you either call ahead or consider buying your cologne online.
|Top Notes:||Ginger and Mandarin|
And 2 of Louis Vuitton’s Colognes to Avoid
Orage Eau de Parfum – Terrible Longevity
First, let’s make it clear that Orage is a beautiful fragrance. It’s easy to wear with pleasant, light, and bright notes – a breezy, classy and manly scent.
It’s just a shame it disappears. The performance on my skin was shockingly bad.
When you’re paying in excess of $200 for a fragrance, part of the value is a bottle will normally last a while. You use fewer sprays per day, so can spread the cost over time.
I was literally applying Orage 3 – 4 times a day to keep the fragrance alive. I’d spray six times and smell nice for maybe 2 hours. It’s totally impractical, and just not good enough for a designer cologne at this level.
It’s a shame because I really enjoy the combination of ingredients and the style Orage puts out there. People do like it if they put their nose to my skin, but you need something with a little more firepower than that, in my opinion.
|Top Notes:||Bergamot and Grapefruit|
|Middle Notes:||Iris, Hedione and Sichuan Pepper|
|Base Notes:||Patchouli, Java Vetiver Oil, Iso E Super and White Musk|
Sur La Route Eau de Parfum – Better than Orage, But Still Poor
Just like Orage, Sur La Route lets itself down in the performance department.
Sur La Route
This citrus aquatic freshie is perfectly likable, with subtle hints of patchouli and cardamom supporting a zesty lemon blast. There’s grassy freshness, leading into a leathery base that is masculine without being obnoxious.
To be honest, I wish the leather accord here was more prevalent across other Louis Vuitton fragrances. It’s divine.
But the longevity here is just horrible.
Maybe there’s something about citrus-dominant fragrances Louis Vuitton hasn’t been able to crack yet. You get maybe 3 hours of anything meaningful if you’re lucky.
If Sur La Route was half the price, maybe you could justify the cost. But even then, only if you’re the kind of guy who doesn’t mind re-spritzing on his lunch break.
|Top Notes:||Citruses, Calabrian bergamot, Lemon and Pink Pepper|
|Middle Notes:||Grass, Nutmeg, Hedione and Cardamom|
|Base Notes:||Leather, Peru Balsam, Cedar, Patchouli and Iso E Super|
What You Should Know About Louis Vuitton’s Colognes Before You Buy
Does Louis Vuitton refill cologne?
Yes, Louis Vuitton will refill your cologne bottle if you bring it into one of their stores.
The brand operates on the principle that its products are built to last, and that extends to their glass flacons, too.
They use a specialist refilling tool that never exposes the cologne to the air, ensuring it’s as fresh as what you would receive if you were to simply buy a new bottle.
How much does it cost to refill Louis Vuitton cologne?
Louis Vuitton refills cost about 60% as much as buying the same volume of cologne brand new.
For example, a new bottle of Ombre Nomade retails at $365 for 100ml. The same volume refill would cost around $200. That’s almost half price!
Are Louis Vuitton Colognes High Quality?
Louis Vuitton colognes subscribe to the idea that a few high-quality, well-balanced accords are far superior to a cluttered mess.
By using the best rare essences available, Louis Vuitton is able to produce alluring fragrances without resorting to gimmicks.
Less is more, as they say.
How To Apply Louis Vuitton Cologne
Louis Vuitton colognes are generally quite powerful, so 2 – 3 spritzes at the start of the day should cover you.
By spraying directly onto your pulse points (neck and wrists) you give your cologne the best chance of projecting further. That’s because these are the warmest areas of your body and allow for the greatest evaporative effect.
Where Are Louis Vuitton Colognes Made?
Louis Vuitton colognes are made in Grasse, France, at the brands bespoke perfumery Fontaines Parfumées.
Paris is known as the perfume capital of the world, so it’s no surprise they consider it the ideal location to produce these high-end fragrances.
FAQ – Best Louis Vuitton Colognes
How Much is Louis Vuitton Cologne?
Louis Vuitton colognes range between $300 and $400, depending on the particular fragrance.
They’re pretty tricky to get hold of from 3rd party discount retailers, so if you’re looking to save money your best bet might be to consider eBay sellers with positive feedback.
