I’d recommend it for beginners as a great way to get started with Hugo Boss colognes and presents the iconic Hugo Boss green apple in a straightforward, uncluttered way.
It sustains impressively well and will leave you smelling like an orchard all day. It reminds me of picnics in the woods growing up, with touches of pine as though you’re camped out on the edge of a forest.
It’s casual wear, carefree, and isn’t trying to win any awards for complexity. As such it’s pretty versatile and would be ideal for daytime dates, office environments or just lounging around the house.

In the top notes, dried fruit and coffee combine in a way that feels silky and energizing, but the unique element here is a heavy emphasis on rich cocoa throughout.
It tastes good enough to eat, and makes The Scent Pure Accord a decadent choice rather than just ‘pleasing enough’.
This is definitely a big blast of cacao – so if you aren’t a big chocolate fan I’d recommend giving Pure Accord a miss.
It has a mature vibe to my nose, and it makes me picture a well-put-together man aged 30 and upward sipping hot chocolate by the fireplace. 100% a cold weather fragrance.
There’s personality here, but it’s refined and quietly confident rather than obnoxious. Despite its considerable projection, it’s unlikely to draw gasps of offense when you walk into a room.
This subtlety makes it ideal for an office environment, but also for a low-key date where you’re not looking to blow someone’s nose off.
Just be warned- you’ll probably have a queue of people asking where they can pick up a bottle for themselves.

Boss Bottled Tonic starts out with citrus notes of grapefruit, lemon, and orange blossom. It’s a refreshing trio that is perfectly suited to summer. For me, it’s the best part of the whole ride.

After half an hour, that sense mellows to make room for a streak of energizing ginger middle notes and the iconic cinnamon/green apple Hugo Boss accord.
It’s faithful to the original Boss Bottled, but swaps out the deeper notes in the base for some summer brightness on the top. It’s just as well balanced, but it takes another route.
To my nose, Boss Bottled Tonic smells like a sweeter version of Yves Saint Laurent’s L’Homme, which is a compliment for sure.
Boss Bottled Tonic also lasts all day but doesn’t project very aggressively. People you’re standing next to will take notice, but this is not a fragrance that will dominate the space – which makes it a great choice to wear to the office on spring or summer days.

It’s a clean-smelling, masculine scent that truly does dish out a wave of icy cool perfect for cooling you off in the summer.
The mint persists throughout the lifetime of the fragrance, but after an hour it’s joined by bright orange and an earthier tea note.
There’s also a hint of vetiver in the base, but not very much. Just a green sense, rather than a blast of woodsiness.
The combination reminds me of fresh rain in the springtime, like a cool morning dew shifting gently over the brightness of new life.
Because it’s such a light scent you will need more than a spray or two, but I balance that against the fact that Iced EDT doesn’t cost much in the first place.
Performance is roughly what you’d expect from a lighter summer cologne at 5 – 6 hours. Whether or not that is acceptable is really going to come down to personal preference.
I really don’t mind reapplying fragrances when I get home from work for a little pick-me-up, but you do you.

Just Different is a fresh-y that bucks the growing trend of relying on citrus scents, instead employing fresh mint and crisp green apple to evoke the same bright sense.
This is an energetic fragrance packed full of vitality
The base adds a bit of weight in the form of a cashmere note which brings some mature woody muskiness to the party. It grounds Just Different, preventing it from becoming another generic, fresh/sporty fragrance.
What makes Just Different truly different is not so much the notes themselves as the way they come together. The descent from the fresh minty start to the woodsy, balmy denouement is a brand of urban, young elegance I’ve never encountered before.
Well-balanced and high-quality, this is a truly special scent.
It lasts for between 5 – 7 hours depending on the season and weather, with this unique fragrance equally suited for winter walks as summer strolls.

With In Motion, you don’t just get a blast of orange the color suggests. It’s there as a sweetener, but I find that I am picking up on cinnamon, sandalwood, and musk more than anything else.

By the end of the dry down, most of the orange has dissipated and you’re left with a pleasant and soothing blend of masculine spiced woods.
It’s a little like if you peeled open a ripe orange, only to find the segments are all made of old mahogany.
The orange factor makes In Motion a little more unique than most Hugo Boss colognes, but it’s still relatively safe and subtle enough to wear to work for example. From a couple of sprays, you won’t project too much, but the scent will still last for between 6 and 8 hours of arms-length detection.
