Dylan Blue Review
Packaging and Bottle
The Dylan Blue bottle is a stylish design, with deep blue glass and gold detailing that mimics the scent it contains – fundamentally “blue”, but with a touch of class and meaningful depth.
The gold Medusa head in the center features across many Versace colognes. It captures the inexplicable power of a good fragrance that feels sort of otherworldly – with the capacity to stop onlookers in their tracks.
What Does Versace Dylan Blue Smell Like?
Overall, Dylan Blue is a great option for everyday wear. It is fresh and clean, with a hint of sweetness and a subtle smokey element.
Overall, it sits somewhere between Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel, and is a little lighter and breezier than them both.
Fig and citrus lead this fresh and clean scent, adding a touch of sweetness to the breezy, clean feeling.
As you enter the heart, a blast of ambroxan reveals a “fresh-out-the shower”, body wash sense.
It’s like a dialled back version of Dior Sauvage, joined by sensual patchouli to ground the scent with some earthy masculinity.
The dry-down is reminiscent of Bleu de Chanel, with a streak of incense that adds just enough mystery to prevent Dylan Blue from feeling generic.
Note: In high heat, the incense can become a little overpowering – so go easy on the sprays in summer!
I also noticed that Dylan Blue smells way better in the air than on the skin. Up close it got a bit messy and difficult to parse out the notes – this is the sort of fragrance that won’t smell quite as good to the wearer as it will passers-by, in my opinion.
Dylan Blue is more complex than your average cologne, but still easy to wear and perfect for everyday use.
It is masculine and easy to wear, and a great choice for younger Gents to feel confident and ready for anything.
Top Notes: | Bergamot, Grapefruit and Fig |
Heart Notes: | Ambroxan, Black Pepper, Patchouli, Violet Leaf and Papyrus |
Base Notes: | Incense, Musk, Tonka Bean and Saffron |
Performance
How Long Does Versace Dylan Blue Last?
Dylan Blue has a healthy 7-hour lifetime – which is excellent longevity for a cologne in this price range.
You’ll get least 3 hours of arms-length projection, a more subtle scent that can carry your through for the remainder of your work day or city adventure.
I still actively notice Dylan Blue on myself after 5 hours or so, even though I usually go nose-blind to blue fragrances after the first couple of hours.
How Powerful is Versace Dylan Blue?
Dylan Blue is a pretty powerful scent for the first couple of hours. You’ll want to go easy on the sprays, particular if you’re in enclosed, intimate environments.
I find 2 sprays in the morning to be plenty for the office. By the time I’ve arrived at work, people will still notice the scent, but I’m not at risk of choking anyone out.
Occasion and Personality
Who Would Like Versace Dylan Blue?
Dylan Blue is a great choice for anyone looking for a versatile and masculine scent that gives a dash of personality without feeling shouty or obnoxious.
It’s an affordable pick that smells more expensive than it is, so lends itself to younger Gents who want to smell classy on a budget.
In terms of seasonality, Dylan Blue can be worn year-round – with the possible exception of high-summer heat, where the smokey incense accord might prove a little suffocating.
When and Where Should You Wear Versace Dylan Blue?
Dylan Blue’s versatility is its strength. This is not your “party-banger”, nightclub fragrance – but it is a great easy reach, daily wear for Gents looking to finesse a clean-cut image.
I’ll gladly wear Dylan Blue to the office. It gives clean-smelling, masculine confidence that is both professional and compliment-collecting.
That said, it’s also breezy enough to feel at home in casual settings like BBQs or gatherings with friends.
If you’re just building out your collection, it’s a great scent to have on hand that covers a lot of bases.
Compliment Factor
Dylan Blue is a great choice for anyone looking for an easy-going fragrance that is sure to get compliments.
Despite some frag-heads who consider Dylan Blue a little “generic”, it still gets plenty of compliments from the general public. I get girls and guys frequently ask me what I’m wearing a few times per week.
Is Versace Dylan Blue Worth It?
In terms of quality, it feels like a step up from budget freshies like Nautica Voyage, and an ever so slight step down from the big three luxury fragrances (Yves Saint Laurent, Bleu de Chanel, and Sauvage).
But you have to remember that Dylan Blue is roughly half the price of those high-end brands – so to receive roughly as many compliments is a great result!
For a budget cologne to be able to genuinely compete in terms of scent and longevity is pretty rare – so I’d have to give Dylan Blue a solid 8/10 for value.
Where to Buy Versace Dylan Blue Online
The best place to buy Versace Dylan Blue online is through Amazon. They have the best prices on the web and are always in stock across all sizing options.
Plus, Prime shipping is very handy if you need something special at short notice.
Fresh and clean scent with a hint of sweetness and a subtle smokey element.
This versatile and masculine scent collects way more compliments than the price might suggest.
You can also order through FragranceX. Even though they might cost a couple of dollars more per bottle, their returns policy is second to none. You can try out your cologne, and provided it hasn’t been “excessively used”, you can send it right back for a full refund.
Versace Dylan Blue Alternatives
One of the best ways to describe Versace Dylan Blue is as a cross between Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel – but simultaneously lighter and breezier than both of them.
Dior Sauvage shares the same Ambroxan-bomb sense, but Dylan Blue is the milder and more subtle scent. It doesn’t have the same powerful pepper intensity that can make Dior Sauvage a little overpowering for some.
Strong bergamot and pepper with bright flashes of lavender and cedar.
This is one of the most popular fragrances in the world - and for good reason.
- Smoother than Sauvage Eau de Toilette, with a gourmand vanilla finish.
- Longer lasting at around 9 – 10 hours.
If you like the sound of Dylan Blue but want to make a bit more of a statement, Dior Sauvage is the way to go.
Compared to Bleu de Chanel, Dior Sauvage is like a more playful younger brother. Bleu de Chanel feels thicker and more mature, with a more complex palate that would suit a gent in his thirties.
A modern-day classic that's got plenty of character, but is professional enough for work, too.
This unique scent profile fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.
- It's ideal for sophisticated evening parties because of its subtle scent.
- It's longevity is approximately 7 hours.
- I picture this worn by a gentleman in a crisp suit or stylish casual clothing.
- I always remember why I adore this fragrance after giving each arm a brief spray.
Bleu de Chanel has improved longevity and projects well for slightly longer too, which might help you justify the more expensive choice.
Keep in mind that Dylan Blue is around half the price of both Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel, and is probably the best option for Gents on a budget looking for this sort of scent DNA
How Does Dylan Blue Stack Up to Other Versace Colognes?
Overall, Dylan Blue is a good fragrance if you’re a beginner on a budget looking for something versatile to cover a lot of bases. It performs as a 7 or 8 out of 10 across a multitude of contexts.
Unfortunately, I’m a little spoiled, and for a fragrance that primarily pitches itself as a freshie, I’d rather go with Versace pour Homme or Versace Eau Fraiche are still my favorite scents from the brand.
Light and breezy lemon freshness with a woodsy base.
A crisp and clean fragrance for warmer weather.
If you’re a fan of ambroxan and musk you might disagree, but if I’m buying a blue scent I want it to be as light and bright as possible. Dylan Blue feels “shower fresh” – but I prefer scents that feel positively “airy” and are suitable for high heat.
Compared to Versace’s most popular cologne – Versace Eros – Dylan Blue is certainly more versatile and appropriate for formal environments.
A vibrant, youthful party-banger cologne that women can't resist.
Masculine woodiness in the base (cedar) paired with sweet fruits and mint.
Beast mode performance- will last a full 8-hour day with no problems.
- More attention-grabbing than the EDP, and better for a party atmosphere.
- Not as expensive as the EDP – about 60 – 70 % of the price.
But Eros is energy personified and would be a better pick for nights out at the bar where you’re trying to generate some excitement. Again, Dylan Blue falls victim to its own versatility, and is something of a “Jack of all trades, master of none”.
